Hakushu 12 Year Old
Distinctively fresh and herbal, Hakushu 12 is a Japanese single malt from Suntory's forest distillery in the Japanese Alps. Its green, herbaceous notes with subtle smoke set it apart, and it is often served in highballs. Fresh green apple, mint, herbal notes, light smoke, and cucumber shape the nose; the palate is crisp and herbal with green mint and citrus, gentle wisps of sweet smoke, and white pepper over a clean lightness, and a refreshing finish leaves cool spearmint, a wisp of smoke, gentle barley sweetness, and mineral freshness. Bottled at 43% ABV by Hakushu in Japan and priced around $100 to $150, it is unusual among malts for its cool, vegetal freshness.
