Hibiki 17 Year Old
Blended from malt and grain whiskies drawn from the Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Chita distilleries and all aged at least seventeen years, Hibiki 17 makes judicious use of mizunara oak casks. The result is a whisky of considerable depth and subtlety. Dried fig, honey, sandalwood, rose, orange peel, and light incense define the nose; the palate is silky with dried fruit, dark chocolate, plum, mizunara oak, and umami, and a very long, layered finish carries mizunara spice and lingering honey. Bottled at 43% ABV in Japan and priced above $300, it is widely regarded among the finest blended whiskies ever produced, the mizunara influence giving it a distinctly Japanese character.
