Ardbeg Corryvreckan draws its name from the whirlpool between the islands of Islay and Jura. Matured in a combination of bourbon and French oak casks and bottled at 57.1% cask strength, it delivers a powerful, spice-driven expression of Ardbeg's peat. Black pepper, tarry rope, dark chocolate, and baked plum shape the nose; the palate is powerful and spicy with peat, black pepper, charred oak, clove, and vanilla, leading to a very long, peppery finish of smoke and deep oak. Produced in Scotland and typically priced around $80 to $110, it sits above the ten-year expression in both strength and intensity, and the French-oak component adds structure the standard bottling lacks.
