### Myth: Older Whiskey Is Always Better
Extended aging does not guarantee superiority. After 20-25 years, many whiskeys become excessively woody, tannic, and bitter. The optimal age depends on the cask type, warehouse conditions, and spirit character. Some of the world's best whiskeys are aged 10-15 years.
### Myth: Bourbon Must Come from Kentucky
Federal law allows bourbon to be made anywhere in the United States. While Kentucky produces approximately 95% of the world's bourbon, legally compliant bourbon is produced in every state from New York to Texas.
### Myth: Darker Color Means Better Quality
Color is easily manipulated with E150a caramel coloring, which is legal in most whiskey categories. A pale gold whiskey from a refill bourbon cask can be far superior to a dark, caramel-colored blend. Judge by taste, not appearance.
